IBC’s deaconesses serve humbly, sacrificially, and effectively behind the scenes. On Sunday, we presented them flowers in a mug that describes their service by saying, “Serve with a Heart Like Jesus.” They certainly do.
IBC’s deaconesses assist with communion and baptisms and are the front line of church hospitality. 2022 has been an extra busy year so far for these hard-working women. In 8 ½ months, they have provided 13 funeral luncheons to hurting families, some very large. Add to that other events like Seniors’ luncheons and special events and they have provided 2,600 excellent meals just so far this year.
We have 13 deaconesses currently. The year began with 14; but the Lord called one, Alomha Morris, home to heaven in April. It was a joy this Sunday to give our ladies a token of appreciation and publicly give them a round of applause in our morning services.
I’d encourage you to thank God for our dedicated deaconesses, to pray for them, and to go out of your way to thank and encourage them personally. After all, Jesus said that the greatest among us are those who serve!
