I had prayed for it; but I confess that I doubted that I would ever really see it. Nevertheless, Roe v. Wade was overturned by the US Supreme Court last week. Praise God! This is an answer to countless prayers of countless Christians for nearly 50 years.
The US Constitution does not provide a right to abortion and the Court has reversed its 1973 ruling to affirm this. The lives of many children will be saved because of this monumental decision. As Pastor Jesse Wagner stated so well, “We are Pro-Life not because of politics or partisanship but because of our belief that God is the Creator and life is His most precious gift.”
I also appreciated the comment from Franklin Graham after the decision was announced and I quote it here as a great summary and statement of how to pray in response.
“This is an important day for our nation as the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. While the ruling is an answer to decades of prayer—and we praise God for what He is doing—the battle to protect innocent lives is far from over. As the issue now shifts to the state level, will you join me today in praying for America? Please pray for:
Peace and healing—Some groups are calling for violent protests. Ask God to protect our justices, pregnancy care center staff, and pro-life organizations across the nation.
State legislation—Pray for lawmakers in each state, that God will give them wisdom and strength to enact laws to guard children in the womb.
Courage for God’s people—This victory is a result of many people standing for God’s truth about the sanctity of life. Ask Him to encourage and embolden His people to remain faithful to His Word in all areas of life, no matter what our culture says.
‘Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love’ (1 Corinthians 16:13–14, NKJV).”
Amen, let’s rejoice and let’s pray for our country and pray for minds that are blinded to the truth to hear the Gospel and come to Christ, the giver of physical and spiritual life.
