On June 24, 2022, IBC’s Senior Quiz Team won the National Bible Quizzing championship at the IFCA Youth Convention held at Taylor University in Indiana. Pictured here (left to right) are Hannah Heijermans, Claire Wingert (#1 IFCA all-star), Laurence Pfouts (#4 IFCA all-star), Alex Sheldon, Micaiah McClain, and Coach Shaun McClain.
In more that 25 years of Quiz Teams, this is only the second time IBC’s Senior Team won it all. They did it in exciting fashion. Having lost a heartbreaker in their first quiz against Fellowship Bible Church of WV, they came back through the loser’s bracket against teams from the Northwest and Midwest, to win their next five quizzes, including defeating twice in a row the one team that had beaten them before, our rival FBC.
Our Novice teams finished in third and fourth places and had three all-star quizzers—Aaron Coburn (#1), Micah Heijermans (#2), and Sam Cushwa (#7).
As I like to say, all the quizzers are winners for memorizing God’s Word. This year, the novice (1st or 2nd year) students memorized Romans 1-7 and the seniors learned Romans 1-8 and 11. Amazing. I love Bible quizzing. My prayer is that the competition will be enjoyable enough to add extra motivation for our teens to keep memorizing.
The Bible is the only Book God ever wrote and that makes it worth all the time and effort we can invest in it. By the way, when’s the last time you memorized a Bible book, chapter, or even one verse? Take the challenge and you will find it an invaluable exercise for “meditating day and night” in sacred words that will change you from the inside out (Psalm 1).
